MONROVIA, Liberia — The Government and people of India on Monday commemorated the country’s 77th Republic Day in Liberia, underscoring the enduring friendship between India and Liberia and reaffirming their shared commitment to democracy, development, and people-to-people cooperation.
The celebration coincided with the publication of a formal Republic Day message from Manoj Bihari Verma, Ambassador of India to Liberia, who highlighted the historic significance of January 26, 1950—the day India adopted its Constitution and formally became a republic grounded in justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
In his message, Ambassador Verma extended warm greetings to members of the Indian community, friends of India, and the Government and people of Liberia. He noted that India’s Republic Day represents not only a constitutional milestone but also the foundation of one of the world’s largest and most resilient democracies.
Reflecting on India’s progress over the past year, the Ambassador pointed to sustained economic growth, expansion of public infrastructure, innovation in science and technology, renewable energy leadership, and India’s growing role as a responsible global partner. He said these achievements reaffirm India’s commitment to inclusive development and international cooperation, including with African partners.
Ambassador Verma emphasized that India–Liberia relations have continued to strengthen through mutual respect, shared democratic values, and expanding cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. He recalled that Liberia and India enjoy a long-standing partnership spanning capacity building, education, healthcare, agriculture, and technology transfer.
The Ambassador also highlighted recent diplomatic milestones, including Liberia’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, describing it as a development India warmly congratulates and supports. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working closely with Liberia in multilateral forums to promote peace, security, and sustainable development.
Economic cooperation featured prominently in the Republic Day message. Ambassador Verma noted that trade between India and Liberia has expanded significantly, with bilateral trade volumes rising sharply in recent years. He added that Indian initiatives such as concessional lines of credit, development assistance, and private-sector investment continue to support Liberia’s growth agenda.
The Republic Day observance in Liberia also drew strong participation from Indian-owned and India-linked businesses operating in the country. Companies such as Sethi Brothers Inc., Sethi Ferro Fabrik, Duraplast, and the Jeety Conglomerate publicly joined the celebrations, using the occasion to reaffirm their long-term commitment to Liberia’s industrial growth, job creation, and social development.
In separate goodwill messages, these companies highlighted the deep historical bonds between India and Liberia and praised the shared values of democracy, unity, and resilience that underpin both nations. They also underscored their role in strengthening economic ties and fostering sustainable development through responsible investment.
Ambassador Verma further emphasized the vibrancy of cultural and people-to-people relations between the two countries, citing ongoing cultural exchanges, educational opportunities, and cooperation in youth and skills development. He said such engagements remain central to deepening mutual understanding and friendship.
Concluding his message, the Ambassador reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its partnership with Liberia for the benefit of both peoples. He expressed confidence that the ties between the two democracies would continue to grow in scope and substance, anchored in shared values and a common vision for peace, progress, and prosperity.
“On this proud national day,” Ambassador Verma said, “India renews its commitment to partnership with Liberia and extends its best wishes for continued peace, development, and shared success.”
