Former Lone Star defender Janjay Jacobs has publicly endorsed Mustapha Raji ahead of the upcoming Liberia Football Association (LFA) elections, citing the need for continuity, stability, and institutional strengthening rather than disruptive change.

Jacobs explained that his support is not based on the belief that the current system is flawless, but on the conviction that consolidating existing structures is a more responsible approach at this stage of Liberian football’s development.

According to Jacobs, reform remains necessary, but it must be deliberate, measured, and driven by experience rather than impulse or short-term frustration.

As the elections approach, he cautioned against reducing the contest to personalities, urging stakeholders to focus instead on long-term direction and stability for the game.

He acknowledged that both leading contenders  Mustapha Raji and Cassell Kuoh are respected football figures who have made meaningful contributions to the sport in Liberia, and each deserves recognition for their commitment and service.

“Ultimately, elections require a choice based on what best serves Liberian football at this critical moment,” Jacobs said.

He described Raji as a leader whose experience and institutional knowledge provide much-needed continuity within the LFA, particularly in maintaining credibility with international football bodies such as FIFA and CAF.

“Mustapha Raji represents experience, institutional stability, and continuity at a time when Liberian football still requires order, structure, and credibility,” Jacobs stated. “While his leadership has not been without shortcomings  particularly in communication and consistency of on-field results  stability has been maintained, and key governance structures remain intact.”

Jacobs also praised Cassell Kuoh for advancing a strong reform-oriented vision, supported by his club-level experience and his understanding of the frustrations shared by many stakeholders in the football community.

“His message resonates with those calling for change,” Jacobs noted. “However, leading a football federation goes beyond urgency and good intentions. It requires deep institutional knowledge, diplomatic skill, and the ability to navigate international football politics areas where continuity and experience remain crucial.” For these reasons, Jacobs concluded that improving and consolidating the existing system under Mustapha Raji represents, in his view, the most responsible path forward for Liberian football at this time.
