MONROVIA – The John F. Kennedy Medical Center, in collaboration with the Monrden Health Campaign, the Liberia Medical Students Association, and U-Care Liberia, recently concluded a day-long prostate cancer awareness campaign which took place at the ESJ Ministerial Complex on Saturday, September 27, in Congo Town.
The event featured a celebratory walk and provided free prostate cancer screenings to the public.
Dr. Ayun Cassell of the JFK Medical Center emphasized the importance of early detection for prostate cancer, a disease that primarily affects men.

He highlighted ongoing efforts throughout the month, including radio talk shows, to educate the community.
Dr. Cassell stressed that early screening significantly increases the chances of survival, especially for men aged 50 and above when prostate changes are more likely.
He reiterated that screenings are crucial as many men may not experience symptoms until the disease has progressed.
The free screenings were made possible by sponsors, including the JFK Medical Center and European Lisa.

Dr. Cassell also announced plans to extend screening initiatives to other areas, including pastoral health, western, northern, and central Liberia, due to increased public demand for information.
He thanked all organizers and the press for their vital role in disseminating health information.
Anna Blamondee Kumeh of the Mondè Health Campaign underscored the duty of health workers to educate the public, not just treat illnesses. She stressed the importance of health education for national well-being and expressed concern for men affected by prostate cancer, particularly those between 45 and 50 years old.
