
MONROVIA – The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) Chairman has expressed appreciation following a grant contribution from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), through Conservation International (CI) under the Food Systems and Land Use Restoration (FOLUR) project.
The LLA received several pieces of equipment from the GEF through Conservation International (CI) to enhance operations of the Authority.
The donations came as an in kind grant contribution under the Food Systems and Land Use Restoration (FOLUR) project to enhance sustainable land management and conservation efforts across Liberia, particularly in the northwest region of the country.
The partnership underscores a shared commitment to balancing economic growth with environmental protection and sustainable development to ensure that local communities benefit from their natural resources.

Hon. Samuel Kpakio, Chairman, LLA, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Board of Commissioners and staff of the LLA to the Global Environmental Facility and the Conservation International for such a timely and essential contribution. He stated that such support is key as the Authority continues to manage challenges affecting the effective operations of the institution.
“I am grateful for such wonderful gestures and commitment shown to the land sector. These contributions will support our efforts towards effecting reforms in the country’s land sector. Again, thanks, and God bless your team for coming,” he added.
The LLA boss further acknowledged that the ongoing partnership between the two entities and the Government of Liberia is a great step in the right direction, with a clear focus on strengthening Liberia’s land use planning and conservation initiatives.
Chairman Kpakio further appreciated Mr. Tom-Wesley Korkpor, Director, Land Use and Management, LLA, for his role as focal person to the FOLUR project, and for his dedication in ensuring that the two entities’ collaborate to mainstream sustainable land use planning and management in our country’s development
He reiterated that the items donated will be well taken care of and used for the intended purpose.
For his part, Mr. Roger Emmou, CI’s Director for Program Delivery in West and Central Africa, extended his institution’s thanks and appreciation to the Chairman for his level of work thus far. Emmou also informed Chairman Kpakio of how Mr. Korkpor has been a great help and an expert in his role. Hence, it was a great decision made by the LLA to assign him to such a project.

Moreover, in a significant step towards sustainable land management and climate change mitigation, CI and its partners, including the LLA, recently concluded a national validation exercise for the development of a comprehensive Land Use Plan for Northwest Liberia. This plan, supported by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) through the FOLUR project, aims to provide a roadmap for responsible land use and environmental conservation in Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu, and Lofa counties.
The LLA, represented by its Director for Land Use and Management, Mr. Tom-Wesley Korkpor, affirmed the institution’s commitment to implementing the FOLUR project, designed to provide the necessary support to benefit the people in the region, since the initiative is designed to balance economic development with environmental conservation.
