Maryland-born runner Lee Dennis made his mark at the Half Liberia Marathon, finishing 4th overall and claiming the honor of being the first Liberian to cross the finish line. He trailed just behind three athletes from Sierra Leone in a competitive field.
Dennis, who has been running competitively since his teenage years, spent months preparing rigorously for this event. He credits his success to disciplined training and a strong determination to represent his community and country on the national stage.
“I am honored and proud to be the first Liberian to finish at the Half Liberia Marathon,” Dennis said. “I have been working hard for this moment, and I am happy to make my country proud.”
The Half Liberia Marathon, part of the broader Liberia Marathon series, regularly attracts top athletes from outside the country, making Dennis’ achievement even more notable.
Looking ahead, Dennis hopes his performance will inspire fellow Liberians to embrace sports, particularly running. “I want to encourage my fellow Liberians to get involved in sports, especially running,” he said.
Dennis now sets his sights on international competitions, aiming to bring home more medals and accolades while continuing to elevate Liberia’s presence in the global running community.
