The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has officially broken ground for the installation of a modern artificial turf at the Willie D. Knuckles (Alpha Old Timer) Sports Pitch along Duport Road in Paynesville, marking another significant milestone in the development of football infrastructure across Liberia.
The colorful groundbreaking ceremony attracted key stakeholders from the football community, including members of the LFA Executive Committee, two LFA Vice Presidents, Unity Party National Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh, the President of the Alpha Old Timer Sports Association, and other prominent sports figures.

Speaking at the event, LFA President Mustapha I. Raji reaffirmed the Association’s strong commitment to grassroots football development, emphasizing that the project is intended to benefit all Liberians, not a select few.
He explained that once completed, the facility will be accessible to youths, grassroots players, and adult teams, providing a vital platform for talent development at every level of the game.

President Raji extended gratitude to the LFA Executive Committee for their unanimous support of the project and expressed deep appreciation to FIFA President Gianni Infantino for his continued backing of initiatives aimed at making football more global, inclusive, and accessible.
He also reiterated his broader vision of ensuring that each county in Liberia has at least one quality playing pitch. The project, estimated to cost approximately US$485,000, is expected to significantly enhance football activities in Paynesville and surrounding areas, while contributing to the long-term growth and sustainability of the sport nationwide.
