The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has announced the introduction of random drug testing for all registered players during the 2025/26 football season.
According to the LFA’s updated Rules and Regulations, players from clubs across all divisions will be subject to unannounced drug tests throughout the ongoing campaign.
The move is part of the Association’s broader efforts to ensure integrity, transparency, and fair competition within Liberian football.
Under the new regulation, any player who tests positive for banned or prohibited substances will face a minimum one-year suspension from all football-related activities, including training and match participation.
The LFA says the initiative aims to protect the health and well-being of players while reinforcing the values of discipline and professionalism in the sport.
In a statement, officials emphasized that the program aligns with international football standards and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA’s anti-doping policies.
“The introduction of random drug testing is a major step forward for Liberian football,” one LFA official noted. “It demonstrates our commitment to clean sport and our determination to safeguard the credibility of the game.” The LFA’s decision has been welcomed by many within the football community, who believe it will help curb the use of performance-enhancing substances and promote a culture of honesty and respect on and off the pitch.
