The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has taken another historic stride in football development with the official opening of the 2025 CAF Coach Educator Course on Wednesday, November 5, at its headquarters in Monrovia.

The ten-day training, which brings together 21 participants including four women, marks a major milestone in the LFA’s drive to expand the pool of qualified coach educators and strengthen the nation’s technical backbone.

Among the participants are some of Liberia’s celebrated football icons James Debbah, Thomas Kojo, and Kelvin Sebwe  who have all transitioned from the pitch to the technical bench, further highlighting the importance of knowledge transfer in football’s growth.

Speaking at the event, LFA President Mustapha I. Raji expressed pride in the progress made toward coach education in Liberia, noting that the program opens new international opportunities for local coaches.

“Today, I’m happy to see an increase in the number of coach educators in Liberia,” Raji said. “The pathway is now open for Liberians not only to serve as coach educators at home but also to facilitate courses abroad. I’m confident that our legends and coaches taking this course will soon be sharing their expertise beyond our borders.”

Raji also commended FIFA for the recently concluded FIFA Coach Educators’ Assessment Program held in South Africa, which featured four Liberian coach educators  Robert Lartey, Arab Fofana, Kesselee Kanneh, and Famatta Dean  as a testament to Liberia’s growing technical presence in African football.

Lead facilitator Abraham Mebratu, a CAF Elite Instructor, emphasized that the course is not just about certification, but about building a sustainable framework for football excellence.

“We are here to develop quality coach educators who will, in turn, produce quality coaches and ultimately quality players,” Mebratu explained. “Continuous learning and professional growth are key to football’s progress.”

LFA Technical Director Doco Wesseh lauded President Raji’s leadership and encouraged local coaches to seize the opportunity to upgrade their skills through the LFA’s ongoing capacity-building programs.

Under the LFA’s Football Development Pillar, coach education has remained a cornerstone of its strategy to empower local talent. Initiatives such as the CAF Coach Educator Course are paving the way for a new generation of technically sound coaches, ensuring that Liberia continues to build a strong foundation for the game from grassroots to elite levels.
