MONROVIA – Presidential Press Secretary (PPS) Kula Fofana is receiving praise from sections of the Liberian media for her bold initiative to include journalists in President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s international and local travels — a move that is being described as a breakthrough for transparency, access, and professional development in Liberian journalism.
Since assuming office, Ms. Fofana has ensured that members of the Executive Mansion Press Corps (EMPC) travel with the President to major international events, including the recent visit to the United States. Seven members of the Executive Mansion Press Corps (EMPC) have so far benefited from international exposure, with two selected for specialized media training in the People’s Republic of China.

The Liberian Post described the initiative as “historic,” stressing that it marks a new era of openness at the Presidency.
“Kula Fofana has set a new standard of engagement between the Presidency and the media. By taking Liberian journalists along with the President on foreign trips, she is not only empowering the press but also ensuring that the Liberian people see and hear their own voices in global spaces,” The Liberian Post said in a statement.
Ms. Fofana, in an earlier remarks she posted on her Facebook page, underscored the importance of media access and independence in strengthening democracy. She expressed gratitude to the EMPC leadership and partner institutions for coordinating the process, while reiterating her commitment to extending similar opportunities to rural journalists.
“All members of the Corps have accompanied the President on local travels, working alongside journalists assigned in rural communities. These efforts strengthen our ability to keep the public informed while providing the media with the access and independence needed for credible reportage of the Presidency,” she noted.
Analysts say the initiative not only enhances transparency but also provides Liberian reporters with invaluable international exposure, which is expected to improve the depth and quality of reporting on presidential engagements.
