It took just two minutes for Liberia’s rising star Jonathan Freeman, captain of the Liberia U20 Men’s National Team and former skipper of Discoveries Sports Academy, to make his mark in Bosnia.
The 18-year-old forward announced himself in spectacular fashion on his debut for FK Željezničar’s U19 side, finding the back of the net almost immediately after kickoff in a 5–0 rout over Čelik during the 13th round of the Bosnia and Herzegovina U19 Premier League.
Goals from Eldar Dragović (2), Anur Haskić, Malik Kolić, and debutant Freeman sealed a dominant afternoon for the young Blues at the Grbavica Stadium’s auxiliary field.

Freeman’s debut had been delayed due to work permit issues, but once cleared, he wasted no time making his presence felt. His goal wasn’t just an opener—it was a statement of intent.
Having joined Željezničar in early September from Discoveries Sports Academy, Freeman has been adapting to life and football in Europe. He is also registered as a first-team player for Željezničar’s senior squad—proof of the club’s faith in his potential.
Known for his leadership, composure, and sharp attacking instincts, Freeman has long been seen as one of Liberia’s brightest young prospects. His instant impact in Bosnia suggests that his journey from Monrovia’s pitches to European football is only just beginning.
Željezničar fans will be watching closely as the Liberian teenager continues to write his European story one goal at a time.
