Liberia is committed to free trade and economic growth in Africa

MONROVIA – In a mark address, Representative Samuel R. Brown of Nimba County District #1 emphasized the essential role of free trade in fostering economic growth and development across Liberia and the African continent.

As Chairman of the House Committee on Commerce and Industry, Brown expressed his full support for the new Framework Document aimed at enhancing trade opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) throughout the region.

During his speech, Brown underscored the importance of collaboration between African nations and their international partners, noting that such partnerships are crucial for the success of the Framework.

“Free trade and market opportunities for our small and medium business people are the foundation for economic growth and development for Liberia and the African Continent,” he stated, highlighting the potential benefits for local businesses.

In his remarks, Brown also addressed the challenges related to pricing of goods and services between African countries.

He called on the Minister of Commerce and Industry to prioritize the implementation of legislative actions and executive orders that promote price stability, ensuring that the economic benefits of the Framework reach the people. “My Committee will give you all the support in this regard,” he assured.

The Congressman took a moment to acknowledge the efforts of those who contributed to the development of the Framework, particularly the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Development Programme, for their vital technical and financial support.

“As we move forward, let us direct our economies by our own hands as a people and continent,” Brown concluded, rallying citizens and leaders alike to take ownership of their economic destinies and work collectively towards a prosperous future.

With the commitment of local leaders and international support, Liberia positions itself to be a vital player in the African economic landscape, paving the way for enhanced trade relations and sustainable development across the continent.
