MONROVIA – In a monumental move aimed at enhancing educational access and community development, the leadership of Change Agent Network University (CAN-U) has formally waived its rights to the institution, facilitating its transformation into a public university under the Lofa County University System.
The declaration, spearheaded by Mr. Eric Willise Wowoh, Founder and CEO of Change Agent Network and its Liberian counterpart, Opportunity Network Liberia, marks a significant commitment to restoring hope and opportunity in Lofa County.
The waiver grants the Government of Liberia complete management and control of CAN-U facilities, as endorsed in a supportive petition to the government.
“This work has never been for personal gain,” Wowoh stated. “It has always been about a promise to my people and to God—a commitment to restore hope through education, faith, and economic freedom.”
His remarks highlight the institution’s foundational mission to empower local communities and foster socio-economic development.

The waiver will remain valid for 12 years from the date of official government acceptance, post which the parties intend to revisit the agreement in good faith.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also be established to ensure accountability and continuity in the transition process.
This document will guide the transfer of control while preserving the mission of educational and social advancement for the people of Lofa County.
Representative Augustine B. Chiewolo, a representative from District #5 in Lofa County, emphasized the importance of education in national development. “The education system of the country is something that all Liberians need to take seriously.
Through education, the nation will develop,” he remarked. Chiewolo encouraged young people in Lofa County to seize this opportunity for higher education, anticipating a transformational shift in the educational landscape of the region.

The leadership of CAN-U expresses hope that this transition will honor the original intent of the land donation and maintain the spirit of service and community empowerment.
“May this transition serve as a divine opportunity to bless our country, honor our elders, and empower future generations,” Wowoh concluded, echoing the institution’s mission of faith and transformation.
As Lofa County prepares for this significant change, the community looks forward to a future where education is accessible to all, setting a foundation for lasting development and prosperity.
