With determination etched into their faces and national pride in their hearts, Liberia’s senior women’s national team, the Lone Star Ladies, have begun final preparations for the 2025 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A tournament. The 21-member squad arrived on May 11, at the Colony Hotel in Monrovia, their temporary training base before departing for Mauritania, where the tournament will take place from May 18 to 31.

This year’s competition will feature eight West African nations, promising a rigorous and high-intensity schedule for all participating teams. For the female Lone Star, the road to potential glory begins not just on the pitch but in their mental and physical readiness.

Conditioned for Combat

In a region where footballing talent abounds, physical fitness remains a non-negotiable. The Lone Star Ladies may have undergone an intensive training regimen, focusing on endurance, speed, and strength—crucial ingredients to survive and thrive in back-to-back matches. Technical drills May also have been paired with tactical simulations, preparing the team to face varied playing styles across their group opponents.

The team’s coaching staff, led by experienced tacticians, may prioritized injury prevention, recovery sessions, and sports nutrition to ensure optimal performance levels throughout the tournament. With scorching temperatures expected in Mauritania, stamina and hydration strategies will be vital.

Mental Fortitude Matters

Equally critical is the psychological preparation of the players. Competing against regional powerhouses like Senegal, Mali, and Guinea demands a resilient mindset. The Lone Star Ladies must engage in team-building exercises and mental conditioning sessions to sharpen their focus, manage pressure, and foster unity.

In tournaments like WAFU Zone A, confidence and composure often define victory. The Liberian team will need to demonstrate belief in their abilities, adapt to game-day challenges, and recover quickly from setbacks—hallmarks of mentally strong squads.

Ready for the Challenge

As they gear up for departure, the Lone Star Ladies will carry not only the aspirations of their coaches and federation, but the hopes of an entire nation. With proper physical conditioning, mental discipline, and national support, Liberia’s female warriors are poised to make an indelible mark in Mauritania.

Victory may not come easily, but the Lone Star is prepared to shine.
