MONROVIA, Liberia โ A domestic dispute over a small sum of money has ended in tragedy in Rock Valley, Congo Town, as Marsco Weah, 41, has been formally charged with manslaughter following the death of his girlfriend, Mary Sirleaf, on November 27, 2025.
According to the Liberia National Police (LNP), the incident occurred in the coupleโs one-bedroom residence when a disagreement over US$20 escalated into violence. Weah, who had received the money from his uncle, allegedly refused to give it to Sirleaf, leading to a confrontation that turned deadly.
During the altercation, police reports state that Weah stabbed Sirleaf in the stomach with a black-handled kitchen knife, leaving her unconscious. She was rushed to Benson Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Investigators noted that the victim had sustained defensive injuries, including bite marks on her left arm and wounds on her left palm, indicating a struggle over the weapon.
Det. Sgt. George K. Quoi, lead investigator, confirmed that Weah was immediately arrested and informed of his Miranda rights. The investigation uncovered that prior confrontations occurred throughout the day, including verbal threats and physical tussles, all culminating in the fatal stabbing at around midnight.
Police and witness statements, along with forensic evidence, were cited as supporting the charges under Chapter 14, Subchapter A, Section 14.2 of the Revised Penal Code of Liberia.
Weah remains in custody pending prosecution, as authorities continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the tragic loss of life in what began as a dispute over a mere twenty dollars.
