Monrovia City Mayor John Charuk Siafa at the 34th International Mayors Conference American Jewish Congress

MONROVIA – The  Mayor of the City of Monrovia John-Charuk Siafa has returned from the 34th International Mayors Conference held in Israel from November 16 to 20, where he engaged with global leaders in urban governance and innovation.

 Organized by the American Jewish Congress, the conference took place in the vibrant cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, highlighting Israel’s rich cultural heritage alongside its cutting-edge advancements in technology.

During the conference, Mayor siafa and other mayors from around the world explored the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on urban life, governance, and economic development.

With a focus on empowering youth through entrepreneurship, the discussions centered on creating new avenues for skills development, job creation, and scalable opportunities that can be harnessed in cities like Monrovia.

“The insights I gained during this conference are invaluable for Monrovia and Liberia at large,” Mayor Siafa stated upon his return.

 “We are living in an era of significant transformation, and it is crucial that we leverage the extraordinary potential that AI and innovation offer to redefine our challenges into opportunities.”

The mayor participated in high-level meetings with prominent figures, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Speaker of the Knesset, the Prime Minister, and President of Israel, solidifying relationships that could benefit Monrovia’s development initiatives.

A notable highlight of the trip was the forging of a twinning partnership with the city of Entebbe, Uganda.

“This partnership will allow us to share knowledge, resources, and best practices in governance and urban development,” Siafa explained, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among cities facing similar challenges and opportunities.

Upon his return, Mayor Siafa is actively engaging with an exploratory delegation of potential investors who have shown interest in key sectors within Monrovia. “We have an opportunity to attract investment that focuses on our priority sectors, which will help us build a sustainable future for our city,” he noted.

Siafa expressed gratitude to Jack and Dan Rosen of the American Jewish Congress, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and fellow mayors for making the trip insightful and rewarding.

The mayor is now committed to translating the knowledge and experiences gained during the conference into actionable plans for Monrovia, aiming to create a sustainable environment for both current and future generations. As Mayor Siafa embarks on this new chapter of engagement and development, he remains optimistic about the possibilities that lie ahead. “Together, we can shape our cities for both today and tomorrow,” he concluded, reaffirming his commitment to the advancement of Monrovia in line with modern innovations.
