Monrovia City Mayor John Charuk Siafa

MONROVIA, Liberia – In a bold move to enhance the cleanliness of the city during the festive season, Mayor John Siafa has announced a crackdown on individuals and businesses that violate city regulations regarding sanitation and public space use.

This initiative, aimed at fostering a cleaner and more orderly Monrovia, comes in response to increasing concerns over littering, poor maintenance of properties, and unauthorized occupation of public areas.

“Enough is enough, Monrovia deserves to be clean too,” Mayor Siafa asserted during a recent press conference.

He emphasized the importance of community participation in keeping the city clean and urged residents to take immediate action by cleaning their surroundings, painting their houses, trimming their grass, and maintaining their drainages.

As part of the enforcement initiative, city planners and various departments within the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) will be actively monitoring neighborhoods and public spaces.

They are prepared to issue fines to individuals caught violating cleanliness regulations, including the construction of makeshift shelters on main streets and residential areas.

This is in addition to a stern warning against using public roads as garages—those found in violation will face the towing of their vehicles along with fines.

“We cannot continue to live in a city that we do not respect,” Mayor Siafa declared. “If we can’t keep Monrovia clean, then we should seriously reconsider our place in this city.”

In a direct call to action for residents, the Mayor urged them to partner with the Community Based Enterprises (CBE) for waste collection services instead of relying on informal waste collectors.

“Stop acting stingy and giving the waste to our boys in the streets,” he advised, emphasizing that proper waste disposal is crucial for maintaining public health and environmental standards.

The festive season is an especially critical time for cleanliness, as increased gatherings and celebrations often lead to litter and disarray.

Mayor Siafa’s proactive measures aim not only to beautify the city but also to instill a sense of community and responsibility among residents.

As the crackdown begins, city officials are optimistic that this initiative will inspire a collective effort towards making Monrovia a cleaner and more vibrant city.

Citizens are encouraged to take pride in their neighborhoods and work together to uphold the standards set forth by the Mayor’s office.

For further information on waste collection services or to report violations, residents can contact the MCC office or visit the official city website.

The clean-up efforts are a collective responsibility, and every little action counts towards making Monrovia a place we can all be proud of.
