The Minister-Designate for Youth and Sports, Cornelia W. Kruah, on Monday, February 16, 2026, held a high-level consultative meeting with the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) as part of her ongoing engagement with key stakeholders in the youth and sports sector.
Since her nomination by the Chief Patron of Sports and President of the Republic of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, Madam Kruah has embarked on a series of consultations aimed at identifying major challenges confronting the sector and proposing strategic solutions to address them.
Speaking during the meeting, Minister-Designate Kruah described SWAL as a critical partner in national sports development. She emphasized that the engagement was necessary to directly hear from sports journalists and better understand their perspectives on advancing the sector.
“As key stakeholders, sports journalists must be involved in decision-making processes beyond the traditional coverage of sporting activities,” she noted. “My vision is to ensure that SWAL and its members play a more active and strategic role in shaping policies and programs within the sports sector.”
Madam Kruah further pledged to work closely with SWAL’s leadership and members upon confirmation by the Liberian Senate, reaffirming her commitment to inclusive governance, transparency, and collaboration.
In response, SWAL President Varmah Kamara expressed appreciation to the Minister-Designate for what he described as a historic engagement. He noted that the meeting marks the first time a designated Minister of Youth and Sports has held direct consultations with the sports writing body.
Kamara characterized the meeting as “a step in the right direction” and emphasized SWAL’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry for the overall development of sports in Liberia. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable growth within the sector through constructive partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
