Labor Minister Cooper Kruah and his team of Labor Inspectors ready to begin their alien inspection

MONROVIA – In a strategic move to bolster labor regulations across the nation, the Ministry of Labour has launched a comprehensive Alien Work Permit verification program. This initiative is set to unfold over the next six months, with a dedicated team conducting rigorous inspections of businesses and concessions throughout Liberia. Their focus will be on foreign workers who hold permits to occupy positions that could potentially be filled by local citizens.

Minister Cooper Kruah announced the launch of this initiative, emphasizing its significance in ensuring compliance with Liberia’s labor laws. “The verification team must carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity,” Minister Kruah affirmed. He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to not only protecting the rights of Liberian workers but also imposing strict penalties on any foreign workers found to be in violation of existing regulations.

This new program comes in response to mounting concerns surrounding the employment of foreign nationals in roles that, according to many, should be available to Liberians. The Ministry’s proactive approach signifies a readiness to hold businesses accountable, reinforcing the message that adherence to labor laws will be closely monitored and enforced.

The Ministry is calling upon stakeholders from various sectors to fully cooperate with the verification team throughout this process. The goal is to strike a harmonious balance between attracting foreign investment and ensuring job opportunities for local workers, thereby bolstering the nation’s economy. As the verification initiative progresses, stakeholders can expect significant ramifications for the employment landscape in Liberia, potentially leading to revised hiring practices and a reevaluation of foreign labor needs in the country. This initiative reflects Liberia’s dedication to fostering a fair and equitable workforce where local talent is prioritized.
