Cestos City, Rivercess – The Ministry of Health (MOH), through its Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), in partnership with GAVI, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO), conducted a visit to Rivercess County to observe and strengthen ongoing immunization activities.

The visiting delegation included key representatives from GAVI: Dr. Marthe Sylvie Essengue Elouma, Regional Head for West and Central Africa; Riswana Soundardjee, Senior Country Manager; Narayan Nathani, Senior Manager of Portfolio Financial Management; and Ava Wildeis, Programme Manager. The team was led to Rivercess County by Dr. Yuah A. Nemah, EPI Acting Program Manager at the Ministry of Health.

The visit aimed to assess the current immunization efforts in the county, identify challenges, and reinforce stakeholders’ collaboration to improve cold chain systems and vaccine coverage.

Discussions centered on enhancing micro-planning strategies and utilizing real-time data monitoring tools to ensure more effective vaccine delivery and coordination.

As part of their assessment, the delegation visited St. Francis Hospital and the Rivercess District Referral Hospital, where they observed vaccine administration procedures, inspected cold chain equipment, and interacted with health workers and mothers whose children had recently received the malaria vaccine.

Rivercess County holds a significant milestone as the first in Liberia to administer the malaria vaccine, marking a notable advancement in the country’s immunization efforts.

The visit concluded with a renewed joint commitment by all partners to strengthen immunization systems in Rivercess and beyond, with emphasis on collaboration, data-driven approaches, and sustainable healthcare delivery.
