-EU, UNDP Back Two-Day Workshop on Campaign Finance Regulations

MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) has called on all registered political parties, alliances, and coalitions to strengthen their financial reporting systems in line with campaign finance regulations, warning that persistent gaps in accountability remain a serious concern.

Speaking Monday, September 29, 2025, at the opening of a two-day workshop on Political Parties and Campaign Finance Regulations at the NEC headquarters in Sinkor, NEC Chairperson Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah stressed that many political institutions are still failing to declare campaign expenditures and submit financial reports as required by law.

“This remains a serious challenge for both the NEC, as the regulatory body, and the registered political parties,” Lansanah said. “However, the NEC remains fully committed to addressing this challenge through collaborative engagement with all stakeholders, in accordance with law.”

The workshop, which brings together political parties, civil society, and international partners, is being organized by the NEC in collaboration with the European Union (EU), the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP-Liberia).

Representatives of the EU and UNDP reaffirmed their support for NEC’s efforts, emphasizing that strong financial accountability in political campaigns is essential for credible and transparent elections.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with Liberia’s campaign finance framework, improve transparency in party financing, and strengthen public trust in the country’s democratic process.
