MONROVIA – The National Port Authority has hosted a one-day engagement for public and private partners on oil spill prevention and response. The session took place in the NPA Boardroom.
Participants formed technical groups. Each group worked on practical steps to reduce oil spill risks in Liberiaโs territorial waters and across NPA facilities.

They agreed to complete and validate Liberiaโs first national oil spill response framework. They also agreed to set up core sub-committees. These groups will meet monthly and run regular drills to strengthen oil spill preparedness.
The technical teams listed key emergency items needed for fast response. Those items include boats, floating devices, dispensers to separate oil from water, fire-fighting gear, personal protective equipment, disposable containers, drones, hot water compressors, solvents, separators, and communication devices.

The meeting also reviewed public sector funding for oil spill work. Stakeholders outlined proposed support from sector agencies to back oil spill readiness and response activities.
The engagement brought together major actors. They included the Liberia National Coast Guard, China Union, Conex, Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company, Liberia Maritime Authority, National Fisheries Authority, APM Terminals, Golden Veroleum Liberia, Western Cluster, Society for the Conservation of Nature, Srimax Oil and Gas, Bea Mountain, ArcelorMittal Liberia, Equatorial Palm Oil Liberia, and Mano Palm.
