Train collides with black and one reportedly died

MONROVIA, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed that one person has died following a collision between a train and a vehicle in the White Plains community on the outskirts of Monrovia.

According to police authorities, the accident occurred late Tuesday night when a vehicle reportedly attempted to cross a railway track in the area and was struck by an oncoming train.

Preliminary findings from the police investigation indicate that the impact of the collision resulted in the death of one occupant of the vehicle, while another individual sustained serious injuries. The injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby health facility.

Police say the deceased has been identified as a foreign national who was visiting Liberia, though authorities have not yet publicly released the individual’s identity pending notification of family members.

The Liberia National Police has since launched a full-scale investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether safety procedures were followed at the railway crossing.

In the wake of the accident, the police are urging motorists and pedestrians to exercise heightened caution when approaching railway lines and to strictly observe road safety regulations.

Authorities stressed that drivers should always ensure that railway tracks are clear before attempting to cross, noting that trains require significant distance to slow down or stop once in motion.

The LNP says further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
