The Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court will present trophies to the winners of the universities track and field

Paynesville, Liberia -In a powerful display of its commitment to youth engagement and national unity, the Office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L) formally participated in the 2025 National Universities Athletics Championship held at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex.

The event, organized under the theme “Have Fun and Stay Healthy,” brought together athletes from ten universities across Liberia.

Representing OWECC-L, the Director of the War Crimes Division, Cllr. Fredrick L. M. Gbemeh, opened the championship with a rousing speech, urging participants to view sports as a path to peace and reconciliation. ‘No to impunity, no to violence, no to atrocity, and yes to accountability,’ he declared, emphasizing the office’s mission to foster justice and accountability as cornerstones of a democratic Liberia.

He used the event as an opportunity to raise public awareness by distributing educational brochures and showcasing the Grade School and Internship Program—concrete steps toward empowering the nation’s youth and promoting civic responsibility.

Cllr. Gbemeh was accompanied by Atty. Prince M. Korvah and Mr. Cyrus A. Daniel, reflecting the office’s united front in community engagement.

The sporting event featured over 50 student athletes competing in track and field events, promoting not just competition but also camaraderie and national pride. Dr. Jallah A. Barbu, Executive Director of OWECC-L, is expected to grace the closing ceremony, further reinforcing the office’s support for youth-driven peacebuilding.

As the championship is expected to conclude on Saturday, May 17, 2025, OWECC-L reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Liberia’s youth and promoting platforms that unite, educate, and empower the next generation of leaders.
