MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development through sports with the announcement of plans to establish football academies in Bong and Montserrado Counties.

The announcement was made during the President’s 2026 Annual Message to the 55th Legislature, where he emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, unity, and national pride among Liberia’s youth.

According to President Boakai, the initiative will be implemented in partnership with Bea Mountain Mining Corporation and aims to create structured pathways for talented young footballers to advance to the national level, while promoting professionalism within Liberia’s sports sector.

The academies are expected to serve as talent development hubs for young people across the two counties, including at-risk youth, as part of broader efforts to use sports as a tool for social development and crime prevention.

The initiative represents one of the few direct references to sports in the President’s address and signals a growing recognition of football’s potential to drive youth empowerment and contribute to national development.
