Montserrado County Representative Yekeh Kolubah during one of his tantrums

MONROVIA- The complaint lodged by Rep. Gizzie K. Kollince against Rep. Yekeh Y. Kolubah underscores a serious breach of decorum within the legislative chamber.

The incident, which occurred on April 24, 2025, follows a tumultuous period in the House of Representatives, exacerbated by a recent Supreme Court ruling that may have heightened tensions among lawmakers.

Rep. Kollince’s allegations paint a vivid picture of vandalism and disregard for the dignity of the legislative space, emphasizing that Rep. Kolubah’s actions were not only forceful but also intentional in dismantling portraits of the former speaker, Richard N Koon.

These actions are not merely individual transgressions but reflect broader issues of respect and civility in political discourse.

Moreover, the behavior reported by Rep. Kollince—Kolubah’s dismissive attitude towards the media and his use of profane language—could further tarnish the image of the legislature and raise questions about the accountability of elected officials.

Such actions could undermine the public’s trust in its representatives and the legislative process as a whole.

The plenary of the House of Representatives will need to address this complaint seriously, considering not only the specifics of the incident but also the overall implications for legislative conduct and the precedent it sets for future behavior among representatives.

This situation may prompt discussions about codes of conduct, the consequences of vandalism, and the standards expected of those in public office.

Additionally, Rep. Kollince lamented that such reckless and contemptuous conduct stands in direct violation of Rule 42 (Prestige and Dignity of the House) as enshrined in their governing principles:

“Rule 42.1: Every member shall, at all times and in all places, uphold the prestige and dignity of the House and refrain from acts that undermine its integrity.

Rule 42.2: No member shall insult, abuse, or harass individuals within the precincts of the House, nor shall they engage in conduct that disrupts its lawful activities.”

Meanwhile, plenary has mandated its committee of Rules Order and Administration to probe into the matter and investigate and report in two weeks.
