Senate Protemp Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence and Senator Amara Konneh

MONROVIA – Minister of Justice Cllr. Oswald Tweh, the Liberia National Police and the National Fire Service have been summoned by the Liberian Senate to provide updates on the investigation of the recent fire incident at the Capitol.

The Senate’s decision to invite the above individuals is a result of a communication from Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh – who in his communication believes investigation in the incident has been delayed.

Senator Konneh in his communication requested his colleagues to take interest in finding a reasonable conclusion to the incident.

In the wisdom of the Senate Pro Tempore Sen. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, she charged the Senate committees on Judiciary and Security to take seize of the matter – by inviting all parties involved to appear before the Senate to provide details on the current status of the investigation.

“It is important that those invited, come and provide the needed clarity to clear public doubt about the ongoing investigation.” The decision by the Senate was taken during its 24th-day sitting, Thursday, May 29, 2025.
