Senator Abraham Dillon presenting certificate to Sethi Brothers on behalf of the Liberia National Fire Service

MONROVIA – The keynote speaker for the International Fire Day 2025 program has called for increased budgetary support for the men and women of Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS).

The Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon said that if the LNFS is to improve its services, it requires additional funding to bolster its efforts, particularly in the areas of salary and insurance coverage for its personnel.

Senator Dillon noted that, through his efforts and those of some members of the legislature, the budget for the LNFS was increased from US$2 million to US$4million for the 2024/2025 budget year.

He emphasized that the safety of all Liberians relies heavily on the effectiveness of the Fire Service. He stated that in order for the Fire Service to enhance its services to the citizens, it is essential for the central government to provide increased financial support.

He pledged to advocate for this crucial funding to relevant stakeholders as Senate reconvenes shortly following their legislative break.

The Director of the Liberia National Fire Service, Col. G. Warsuwah Barvoul, emphasized that the celebration reflects the sacrifices made by the men and women of the LNFS over the years.

He stated that as they join the global community in this celebration, it is crucial for the national government to support their efforts to better serve the nation and its people.

The LNFS Director highlights two critical issues regarding fire safety in Liberia: the need for improved salary and insurance for fire personnel and the planned construction of seven new fire sub-stations throughout Montserrado.

Director Barvoul emphasized that the national government must prioritize addressing the salary and insurance concerns of fire service personnel. “This is crucial for ensuring that firefighters are adequately compensated and protected, which, in turn, can enhance their effectiveness in combating fire outbreaks.”

The Director also announced plans to build seven new sub-stations in Montserrado. This initiative aims to strengthen the fire service’s capacity to respond to emergencies and mitigate fire outbreaks in the county and beyond.

Overall, the statement underscores the importance of both financial support for fire personnel and the development of infrastructure to improve fire safety in.
