FOYA, Lofa County — Joseph Jallah has donated L$500,000 and assorted food items to residents of Sorlumba Town in Lofa County in recognition of what he described as their patriotic role in helping safeguard Liberia’s border during recent tensions involving Guinean soldiers.
The donation was made during a visit to the northern border community, which drew national attention following reports of a cross-border incident between Liberia and Guinea earlier this month.
Senator Jallah commended residents of Sorlumba for mobilizing to support security efforts and for remaining vigilant during the tense situation.
“These citizens demonstrated patriotism and commitment to protecting Liberia’s territorial integrity,” the lawmaker said, praising the community for what he called their selfless actions during the crisis.
Support for Affected Families
In addition to the L$500,000 cash donation, Senator Jallah distributed assorted food items to families in the community who were affected by the border tensions.
Local residents said the gesture was welcomed at a time when many people in the area had been forced to remain on high alert as authorities monitored the situation along the frontier.
Sorlumba Town, located in northern Lofa County near the Liberian-Guinean boundary, has long been one of the communities closest to the disputed border area.
Assistance to Security Forces
The senator also extended financial support to security personnel stationed in the region.
As part of his visit, he presented L$60,000 to officers deployed in the area to assist with operational costs while they continue monitoring activities along the border.
Security officers have been stationed in several communities in Lofa County in recent weeks following reports of Guinean soldiers appearing near Liberian territory.
Rising Tensions at the Border
The Liberia–Guinea border has been under heightened attention after reports surfaced that Guinean troops had crossed into or were operating near areas claimed by Liberia.
The situation prompted the Government of Liberia to deploy additional security forces and initiate diplomatic engagement with Guinea in an effort to prevent escalation.
Officials from the Mano River Union and the Economic Community of West African States have also been monitoring developments as both countries work toward a peaceful resolution.
Communities at the Frontline
Border communities such as Sorlumba have played an important role in alerting authorities about movements near the frontier and cooperating with security agencies to maintain calm.
Residents say the senator’s visit and support have boosted morale in the area.
Observers note that the situation highlights the strategic importance of Lofa County communities, which often serve as Liberia’s first line of awareness during border disputes.
For now, Liberian authorities say diplomatic efforts continue while security forces remain deployed to ensure peace and stability along the frontier.
