Liberia’s Top Sports Writers Praise Efforts to Make Sports a Pillar of Foreign Relations
Monrovia, Liberi– The Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) has applauded Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, for her remarkable efforts in promoting sports diplomacy as part of Liberia’s global engagements.
During a recent high-level bilateral meeting with His Excellency Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia, Minister Nyanti highlighted the transformative role of sports in youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and international cooperation.
As a result of the talks, both nations agreed to deepen collaboration in several key areas, including:
Deployment of a Serbian coach to assist the Liberia National Football Team;
Exchange and training programs for Liberian sports teams;
Support for school-level sports initiatives; and
Exploration of a potential Sports Academy in Liberia.
In a statement issued Monday, SWAL hailed Minister Nyanti’s initiative as “unprecedented and visionary,” describing it as a major step toward positioning sports as a catalyst for national development and diplomatic engagement.
“This move by Minister Nyanti is historic. It shows genuine recognition of sports as not just recreation but a vital driver of economic growth, peace, and youth empowerment,” SWAL said in its release.
The Association further commended Minister Nyanti’s leadership and commitment to embedding sports in Liberia’s foreign policy framework, urging her to continue using global platforms to advance sports-related partnerships.
SWAL also called on the Government of Liberia to make sports a core pillar of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, noting that sports is among the world’s largest employment sectors and a key tool for youth transformation.
“Any government that is serious about creating jobs and empowering young people must invest in sports. Minister Nyanti’s initiative provides the perfect example of how diplomacy can support development,” the statement concluded.
