MONROVIA – The University of Liberia (UL) and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) have launched a major partnership to rehabilitate bathroom and sanitation facilities across UL’s Capitol Hill, Fendall, and Health Sciences campuses.
The agreement was finalized Tuesday during a high-level meeting between UL President, Dr. Layli Maparyan, and LWSC Managing Director, Hon. Mo Ali, accompanied by Deputy Director for Technical Services, Patrick Sandikie. The collaboration follows recent LWSC water and sanitation assessments conducted at UL facilities.
“This is a partnership for progress,” said MD Ali. “LWSC stands ready to ensure UL campuses receive the water and sanitation infrastructure they deserve.”

Scope of Work
The partnership will focus on:
- Rehabilitation of wells and installation of new boreholes.
- Construction of water storage facilities and plumbing systems.
- Installation of modern bathroom fixtures.
- Expansion of wells at Fendall and full connection of Capitol Hill campus to Monrovia’s water and sewer grid.
UL, with support from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, will provide renovation materials. Labor will be shared between LWSC technical experts, UL’s Plant Operations Department (POD), and a newly constituted UL technical taskforce.
Immediate Action
Work is set to begin this week. Ahead of construction, Interim Vice President for Administration, Mr. Sehmah R. Jallah, has instructed POD, led by Mr. Jefferson Walker, to clean and prepare all bathroom facilities.
A New Chapter for UL
“This is the collaboration we have been waiting for,” Dr. Maparyan said. “Finally, UL students, faculty, staff, and visitors will have dignified facilities befitting the nation’s flagship university.”
