MONROVIA – The Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, today officially commissioned the Night time Navigational Aid and unveiled a suite of state-of-the-art marine equipment at the Freeport of Monrovia.
This landmark move is aimed at enhancing maritime efficiency and positioning Liberia as a regional trade hub, was held under the theme “Advancing Maritime Excellence,” It marks a major step toward achieving 24-hour vessel turnaround at the Freeport of Monrovia. The newly introduced night time navigational aid is expected to significantly reduce vessel bearthing delays, thereby improving operational efficiency and supporting Liberia’s economic recovery efforts.
In his keynote address, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung commended the National Port Authority family, APM Terminals Liberia, and key partners for their ongoing strides in modernizing the port infrastructure. He, however, issued a strong reminder that infrastructure gains must translate into tangible benefits for the Liberian people who are the end users.
“If these developments do not reflect on the lives of ordinary Liberians, then all efforts will be in vain,” Vice President Koung stated emphatically.
Delivering a statement at the commissioning program, NPA Managing Director Hon. Sekou A.M. Dukuly reaffirmed the Port Authority’s commitment to delivering on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s mandate to make the Port of Monrovia a competitive and investor-friendly gateway to West Africa. He highlighted the initiatives as part of a broader vision to stimulate trade, attract investment, and strengthen Liberia’s maritime presence.
“Our focus remains unwavering—to build a port system that is modern, secure, and profitable,” Dukuly noted.
Among the newly commissioned equipment were a restacked, pilot boat, and buoyant navigational aids, all part of a comprehensive upgrade plan being implemented by the National Port Authority under the stewardship of Managing Director Hon. Sekou A.M. Dukuly.
The commissioning ceremony drew participation from an array of high-level government officials, including members of the 55th National Legislature, Minister of Public Works Roland Lafayette Giddings, Minister of Commerce Magdaline Dagoseh, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sekou Kromah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Nyei, and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Major General Davidson Forleh, among others. Also in attendance were representatives from the Bureau of Concessions, Ministry of Information, and several development partners.
This event symbolizes a renewed momentum in Liberia’s drive toward infrastructural modernization and economic revitalization, anchored on the principles of innovation, partnership, and national development.
