Legislature passes Oranto deals

MONROVIA –The House of Representatives of Liberia has officially adjourned for its annual constituency break, as mandated by Article 40 of the 1986 Constitution.

This significant event occurred during the 17th day sitting of the 3rd Quarter of the 2nd Session, marking the conclusion of a productive legislative period.

In his closing statement, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon reflected on the accomplishments of the session, noting that out of 70 bills introduced, an impressive 48 bills were successfully passed.

Among these, 11 bills originated from the Executive Branch, while 22 were concurrence bills received from the Liberian Senate. Additionally, 15 bills were initiated by the House itself.

Speaker Koon expressed satisfaction with the productivity of the legislative session, emphasizing the House’s commitment to its three cardinal responsibilities.

In his address, Speaker Koon extended heartfelt appreciation to his colleagues for their cooperation, dedication, and collaborative spirit throughout the session.

He acknowledged the importance of teamwork in achieving legislative goals and praised the positive relationships fostered between the House and other branches of government.

He specifically commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and members of the Executive Branch, as well as the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, for their support and collaboration.

“The cordial working relationship between our branches has been instrumental in our successes, and I am optimistic that this harmonious partnership will continue when we reconvene,” he remarked.

The House of Representatives will take a break to engage with constituents and return to legislative functions on the second working Monday of January 2026, which falls on January 12.

This break provides lawmakers the opportunity to connect with their communities, gather feedback, and prepare for the legislative challenges ahead.

As the House embarks on its annual break, the leadership remains hopeful for continued progress and collaboration in the upcoming session, aiming to further enhance the legislative role in promoting the welfare of the Liberian people.
