MONROVIA – Ghanaian digital content creator and one of Africa’s biggest YouTubers, Wode Maya, has expanded his tour of Liberia with a series of engagements aimed at promoting the country’s tourism potential, culture, and untold stories to his millions of followers around the world.
The latest activities come after Wode Maya arrived in Liberia as part of the country’s 179th Independence Day celebrations, a visit facilitated by the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) to position Liberia as an emerging tourism and investment destination.
From engaging local content creators in Monrovia to exploring one of Liberia’s premier eco-tourism destinations in Nimba County, the celebrated African storyteller has continued to immerse himself in the country’s people, culture, and natural attractions.
A Warm Liberian Welcome
Moments after stepping off the aircraft, Wode Maya was greeted with traditional music, cultural performances and enthusiastic chants welcoming him to Liberia.
Officials officially received him on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, describing Liberia as Africa’s oldest independent republic.
The atmosphere became even more lively when members of the welcoming delegation jokingly declared the Ghanaian YouTuber an honorary Liberian.
“You are now a Liberian,” one of those welcoming said announced.
Laughing, Wode Maya responded:
“I am now a Liberian from today onwards.”
The exchange drew applause and laughter from everyone gathered at the airport, setting the tone for what organizers hope will be a memorable visit.
‘I Wanted to Come Back’
Although this is not his first trip to Liberia, Wode Maya said this visit carries special significance because it coincides with the country’s biggest national celebration.
Asked why he decided to return, he replied:
“Because of the biggest festival that is happening here in Liberia.”
He explained that he had long planned to revisit the country but seized the opportunity immediately after receiving the invitation.
“I’ve always wanted to come back to Liberia,” he said.
“But the moment I got the message, I’m like, ‘You know what? This is a great opportunity for me to be back in Liberia.’ So, I am here to celebrate with the people of Liberia.”
He added:
“I can’t wait to have the best time of my life.”
Creating Space for Liberia’s Storytellers
One of the highlights of his visit was a networking Meet & Greet hosted at RLJ Kendeja Resort & Villas, where Wode Maya and his team interacted with Liberian content creators, travel bloggers, filmmakers, photographers, and digital storytellers.

As part of his nationwide tour, Wode Maya also traveled from Monrovia to Nimba Ecolodge & Reserve in Nimba County, where he received another enthusiastic welcome.
The eco-tourism destination celebrated his visit, describing it as an honor to host one of Africa’s most influential digital creators.
“We’re thrilled to receive one of Africa’s biggest YouTubers, our own Ghanaian brother, Wode Maya,” the lodge said, expressing appreciation for his decision to make the long journey from Monrovia to the Nimba Mountains.
Management of the reserve said his presence offers another opportunity to showcase one of Liberia’s lesser-known tourism destinations to international audiences and encouraged him to return in the future.
