MONROVIA – The Liberia Mascara Survival Association (LIMASA), a dedicated victims’ and survivors’ group, has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia (OWECC-L) for its efforts in drafting legislation aimed at establishing a War and Economic Crimes Court and a Special Anti-Corruption Court.

At a brief ceremony held at the OWECC-L office, LIMASA’s Executive Director, Peterson Sonyah, praised Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, the Executive Director of OWECC-L, for his exemplary work in championing justice for the community.

Sonyah highlighted the positive transformations that the collaboration between LIMASA and OWECC-L has brought, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts toward establishing these crucial courts.

“Dr. Barbu’s dedication has made a significant impact, and this honor reflects our gratitude for his leadership since he took over the institution,” said Sonyah.

Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, while receiving the honor, acknowledged the challenges faced in pursuing justice for victims and expressed gratitude for the support from LIMASA.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between civil society organizations and government bodies in achieving meaningful outcomes for victims of war and economic crimes.

As part of their commitment to justice, Dr. Barbu announced that $50,000 has been allocated in the budget to support LIMASA’s operations through OWECC-L.

 He called on the government to provide additional resources to enhance the group’s efforts.

“This honor belongs to the dedicated staff at OWECC-L who work tirelessly to ensure that victims are heard and justice is served,” Barbu stated. The partnership between LIMASA and OWECC-L represents a vital step toward addressing the injustices faced by victims of Liberia’s turbulent past. As they move forward, both organizations remain committed to advocating for justice and accountability in the country.
