MONROVIA, Liberia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Saturday reaffirmed Liberia’s reliance on divine guidance and prayer as pillars of national progress, declaring that the country’s survival and future prosperity remain rooted in faith.

The President made the remarks while attending the consecration of Reverend Paye Vincent Bagnon Jr. as Bishop of Faith Life Ministries International, a ceremony that drew senior state officials, religious leaders, and worshippers from across Liberia and the diaspora.

Addressing the congregation, President Boakai described the elevation of Bishop Bagnon as more than a church event, calling it a moment of national spiritual significance at a time when Liberia continues its post-conflict rebuilding and reform journey.
“We believe in the power of God and His blessing upon this nation,” President Boakai said. “It is what got us going, and it is what will take us further.”

The Head of State stressed that Liberia’s progress has been sustained not only by political leadership and institutions, but by the prayers and moral stewardship of religious leaders who guide citizens through times of uncertainty and hardship.
“Your prayers have brought our country this far, and we believe they will take us even further,” the President told the clergy, referencing biblical teachings on the power of righteous prayer.

President Boakai acknowledged Bishop Bagnon as a servant leader whose ministry has contributed meaningfully to Liberia’s moral fabric and social stability, noting that faith leaders play a critical role in shaping character, unity, and national conscience.
“We want to thank God for adding to our nation a servant leader—someone whose ministry we have followed closely and whose testimony is known to all of us,” he said.

The President further urged bishops, pastors, and church leaders to continue interceding for Liberia, emphasizing that spiritual leadership remains indispensable as the nation confronts economic challenges, governance reforms, and social healing.
“Liberia looks up to you,” President Boakai told the clergy. “You are the custodians of our people when it comes to presenting us before the Lord.”

The consecration ceremony was attended by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, cabinet ministers, legislators, and international guests from the United States, Nigeria, South Africa, Australia, and other countries, underscoring the growing global footprint of Faith Life Ministries International.
In his acceptance remarks, newly consecrated Bishop Bagnon offered emotional reflections on his spiritual journey, personal trials, and unwavering faith, crediting God’s grace, mentorship, and family support for his rise in ministry. He also thanked President Boakai for his presence and guidance, recalling moments of personal counsel from the President.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for national peace, leadership wisdom, and renewed hope for Liberia, as President Boakai reiterated his belief that faith remains central to the nation’s destiny.
“There are better days for this country,” the President declared. “And those better days are days we commit to the Lord.”
