MONROVIA — The family of Samuel P. Jackson has issued its first comprehensive public statement following the death of his wife, Ntombikayise Innocentia Khumalo, calling for restraint, respect for due process, and an end to widespread speculation surrounding the case.

In a detailed statement released on March 17, the family expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Khumalo, widely known as “Toni,” while emphasizing their full cooperation with the ongoing investigation by the Liberia National Police.

“This is a deeply tragic loss,” the statement read, extending condolences to Khumalo’s relatives, including her mother, Ms. Eliza Khumalo, and other family members across multiple countries.

Call for Due Process and Responsible Discourse

The family raised concerns about what it described as “unverified claims, misinformation, and harmful commentary,” particularly on social media, urging the public and media institutions to act responsibly.

“We respectfully urge the public to refrain from speculation… and allow the investigative process to proceed without interference,” the statement emphasized.

The family also acknowledged the work of Gregory Coleman, praising the professionalism of the police and reaffirming that Samuel Jackson continues to cooperate fully with authorities.

This appeal comes amid heightened public interest and scrutiny following the circumstances surrounding Khumalo’s death, which has triggered both national and international attention.

Clarifications on Financial and Personal Matters

In an effort to counter circulating rumors, the family clarified that:

  • There was no life insurance policy held by Toni Khumalo payable to Samuel Jackson
  • The couple jointly owned business interests across Liberia, South Africa, and the United States

“These facts are presented solely to address speculation regarding financial motives,” the statement noted.

Health History Presented as Context

The family also outlined aspects of Khumalo’s medical history, stressing that the information was shared strictly to provide context and not to diminish her dignity.

According to the statement, Khumalo experienced several health-related incidents in recent years, including:

  • A serious fall in Monrovia in early 2023, resulting in a nasal injury that later required corrective surgery in South Africa
  • Multiple minor medical episodes between 2023 and 2025 in the United States and South Africa
  • A 911 emergency call in July 2025 in Georgia after she reportedly fell unconscious but declined hospital treatment
  • A mid-air medical emergency in December 2025 aboard a United Airlines flight, which led to an emergency landing in New York
  • A March 9, 2026 incident in Monrovia, where she was found semi-conscious at home but declined medical care

The family stated that Samuel Jackson had “consistently encouraged his wife to seek medical care,” though such efforts were “not always accepted.”

Apology from Samuel Jackson

The statement also included an apology from Samuel Jackson regarding remarks made shortly after his wife’s death.

“These occurred during a moment of grief and distress and were not intended to cause harm or offense,” the family said.

Background: A Case Under Intensifying Scrutiny

The statement comes against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving investigation into Khumalo’s death, which has drawn significant public attention in Liberia and beyond.

Authorities have since escalated the case, with police confirming that Samuel Jackson is now considered a suspect rather than merely a person of interest—a development that has further intensified debate and speculation.

The case has also been shaped by multiple competing narratives, including allegations of prior domestic incidents, calls for independent forensic examinations, and heightened public discourse fueled by social media.

Family Appeals for Calm

Despite the growing controversy, the Jackson family is urging calm and restraint.

“This is a time for truth, compassion, and restraint—not sensationalism,” the statement concluded.

The family reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with investigators and indicated that further updates would be provided as appropriate.

As the investigation continues, the case remains one of the most closely watched developments in Liberia, raising broader questions about justice, accountability, and the role of public discourse in high-profile cases.
