Mr. Samuel P. Jackson, a stunch critic of the Boakai-led Administration

MONROVIA — Embattled political figure Samuel P. Jackson has announced his immediate suspension from the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), stepping aside from his role as Economic Strategist as legal proceedings against him continue.

In a formal letter addressed to CMC Political Leader Musa Hassan Bility, Jackson said his decision was taken “in the best interest of the institution,” emphasizing the need to prevent his personal legal challenges from distracting the party’s mission.

“I hereby formally suspend my affiliation and position as Economic Strategist of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), effective immediately, pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings involving my person,” Jackson wrote.

The letter, dated April 13, 2026, further reaffirmed his loyalty to the party, noting that he remains committed to its broader goals of “peace, stability, economic growth, and social equity for all Liberians.”

Jackson’s decision comes at a time when he has been facing a series of legal challenges that have placed him under increasing public and judicial scrutiny. While details of the ongoing proceedings have not been fully disclosed in the letter, multiple reports in recent weeks have highlighted his entanglement in court matters, raising questions about his political future and credibility.

His rise within the CMC had been viewed by some observers as part of the party’s effort to strengthen its policy and economic credentials under the leadership of Bility. Jackson, who positioned himself as a key voice on economic strategy, had been actively involved in shaping the party’s messaging on governance and development.

However, his legal troubles have increasingly overshadowed his role, prompting concerns within political circles about the potential impact on the party’s image and internal cohesion.

By stepping aside, Jackson appears to be attempting to shield the CMC from reputational damage while allowing the legal process to take its course.

“This decision is taken in the best interest of the institution,” he emphasized, signaling an awareness of the broader political implications of his situation.

Political analysts say the move reflects a growing trend among public figures to temporarily withdraw from official roles when faced with legal scrutiny, particularly in a climate where public accountability is becoming more pronounced.

The CMC has yet to issue an official statement regarding Jackson’s suspension, but sources within the party suggest that leadership is keen to maintain focus on its agenda while avoiding distractions tied to individual legal battles.

For Jackson, the development marks a significant turning point. Once seen as an emerging policy voice within the opposition-aligned movement, his immediate future will likely be shaped by the outcome of the ongoing judicial proceedings.

As the case unfolds, attention will remain on both the legal process and its potential implications for the CMC and Liberia’s broader political landscape.
