MONROVIA, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has strongly condemned a brutal mob attack in Jenneh Town, Bomi County, describing the incident as a serious violation of the law and a dangerous threat to public safety and national security.
The condemnation follows the circulation of a disturbing video on social media showing a man being violently assaulted by a group of individuals believed to be residents of the community. The footage, which has sparked widespread public concern and outrage, prompted an immediate response from law enforcement authorities.
In a statement issued Sunday, the LNP warned that acts of mob justice continue to undermine Liberia’s judicial system and erode public confidence in the rule of law.
“Such actions are unlawful and unacceptable. They weaken trust in the justice system, endanger lives, and threaten the peace and security of our communities,” the Police said.
According to the LNP, a full-scale investigation has already been launched into the incident. Police investigators are currently reviewing video footage and gathering other evidence to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the attack.
Authorities disclosed that efforts are also underway to establish the circumstances that led to the violence and determine whether additional criminal offenses were committed before, during, or after the incident.
The Police are appealing to residents of Jenneh and the wider Bomi County community to cooperate with investigators by providing any information that may assist in identifying the perpetrators. The LNP assured the public that all information received will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.
The incident has renewed concerns about the growing trend of vigilante justice in parts of the country, where suspected offenders are sometimes subjected to mob violence instead of being turned over to law enforcement authorities.
The LNP cautioned citizens against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that no individual or group has the legal authority to investigate, prosecute, judge, or punish another person outside the framework of the country’s justice system.
“Justice must be pursued through lawful means. Every person accused of wrongdoing is entitled to due process under the laws of Liberia,” the statement emphasized.
Police authorities further revealed that security presence in the affected area has been strengthened to maintain calm and prevent any further acts of violence or retaliation.
The LNP reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all those responsible for the attack are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with Liberian law.
The Police also urged citizens across the country to reject mob violence and instead report criminal activities through established legal channels, emphasizing that the rule of law remains the cornerstone of a peaceful and democratic society.
As investigations continue, the Liberia National Police is calling on the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
