The Women’s Legislative Caucus of Liberia is set to induct a new corps of officers to steer the affairs of the Caucus for the next three ears. The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM on the grounds of the Capitol Building in Monrovia.
Margibi County Electoral District #3, Representative, Ms. Ellen Attoh-Wreh, was elected Chairperson of the Caucus and will officially assume leadership during the ceremony. She succeeds Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, who will formally turn over the gavel of authority to the new chairperson.
The historic event will be graced by Mr. Richard Nagbe Koon, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who will serve as Guest Speaker, while the Vice President of Liberia, Mr. Jeremiah Kpan Koung, will serve as Special Guest of Honor.
Also expected in attendance are members of the 55th Legislature, Ms. Comfort Lamptey, Country Representative of UN Women Liberia, the Minister of Gender, members of the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL), FEJAL, WONGOSOL, and several representatives of women-focused organizations and civil society groups.
Formed in 2006 by female lawmakers of the 52nd National Legislature, the WLCL aims to define and promote a unified agenda for women across political, religious, and ethnic divides. It seeks to amplify the voices of Liberian women on critical national issues, champion gender-sensitive legislation, and advocate for women’s empowerment and participation in all sectors of society.
Currently, the 55th Legislature comprises eleven female lawmakers (eight Representatives and three Senators) who continue to work through the WLCL to mainstream gender perspectives in legislation, budgets, and national policies.
Following the official induction, Chairperson Rep. Ellen Attoh-Wreh will hold a press conference to outline her vision and address questions from members of the media.
