President Boakai welcoming everyone to the Diaspora National Conference

MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially announced the 2025 Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference, which will be held from September 26–28, 2025, in Washington, D.C., United States, under the theme: Building the Future Together.”

In a special address to Liberians at home and abroad, President Boakai described the conference as more than a gathering — calling it a call to action to harness the talents, resources, and global experience of the Liberian diaspora in shaping a brighter future for the nation.

“Our diaspora makes it a vital component of the rest of the world, which fuels the engine that drives our nation’s growth,” the President said. “Whether in business, education, health, technology, or culture, your contributions have already been shaping lives back at home.”

Diaspora Remittances: A Lifeline for Liberian Families and Economy

President Boakai acknowledged the critical role the diaspora plays in sustaining Liberia’s economy, particularly through remittances, which are estimated to contribute hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars annually. These funds help support families, pay school fees, cover medical expenses, build homes, and finance small businesses across the country.

According to data from the Central Bank of Liberia and international financial reports, remittances from Liberians abroad represent one of the largest sources of foreign exchange for the country — in some years exceeding foreign direct investment and donor support combined.

Beyond financial support, diaspora Liberians also contribute to development by investing in local businesses, building schools and clinics, funding scholarships, and serving in advisory roles to both government and private institutions.

A Platform for Collaboration and Engagement

The 2025 conference, President Boakai said, will offer an inclusive platform for diaspora Liberians to directly engage with national leadership, development partners, and their compatriots from across the globe.

“I believe the future we seek — a future of stability, innovation, and prosperity — can only be realized if we build it together,” he said.

“This conference is your platform to engage directly with national leadership, with fellow Liberians across the world, and with partners who believe in Liberia’s promise.”

Boakai emphasized that the gathering would focus on building practical partnerships and designing innovative strategies to advance national development goals — aligned with his ARREST Agenda for inclusive growth and good governance.

A Call to Unity and Purpose

As he concluded his message, the President appealed to all Liberians abroad to answer the call to serve, give back, and participate in shaping the country’s future:

He ended with his signature call: “Think Liberia, love Liberia, and together, we’ll build Liberia.”

The 2025 Liberia Diaspora Conference is expected to draw stakeholders from across North America, Europe, Africa, and beyond — including investors, professionals, youth, civil society, and representatives of the Liberian government.
