WEST POINT, MONROVIA — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), through its Special Drug Squad, has confiscated a cannabis stockpile valued at more than L1,000,000 in a targeted operation in West Point, following credible intelligence tips.
Preliminary findings indicate the narcotics were concealed in nine small mineral water bottles and are believed to be owned by a 70-year-old suspect, Mrs. Lucy S. Morris. The press statement, issued Tuesday by LDEA Chief of Public Relations G. Orlando Demey, notes that the suspect is currently undergoing investigation and will be forwarded to court under the Amended Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023.
“The LDEA reaffirms its unwavering commitment to dismantling drug-trafficking networks and curbing the distribution of illicit substances across Liberia,” the agency stated, adding that operations will continue across the country to bring those involved in the illegal drug trade to justice. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious drug-related activities in their communities.
The LDEA also warned that traffickers are adapting tactics — including the use of motorcycles and tricycles (kekehs) — to transport illicit substances and evade law enforcement. The agency says it remains resolute in updating countermeasures to intercept and dismantle these evolving criminal strategies.
