Monrovia – House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has outlined key priorities for the 55th Legislature, emphasizing unity, accountability, and timely legislative action as the body enters its third and final quarter.
Speaker Koon announced that Liberia is preparing for the official launch of a new sub-regional body next year, with representatives to be named soon. He commended those involved in the process, describing it as a testament to Liberia’s growing commitment to regional cooperation and integration.
In his address, the Speaker issued a strong call to all legislative committees to expedite work on pending bills, ensuring that critical pieces of legislation are passed promptly for the benefit of the Liberian people.
Koon also urged the Senate to act swiftly on key legislative instruments, particularly the National Old Folks Bill and the Amended Disability Act, describing both as vital to promoting inclusive governance and protecting vulnerable groups.
As the Legislature approaches the end of its session, Speaker Koon appealed for “honest, courageous, and united leadership,” reminding lawmakers that their work should transcend political affiliations.
“We must work not as partisans, but as patriots,” he said, urging his colleagues to engage in respectful debates and remain united despite differences.
Concluding his statement, Speaker Koon delivered a powerful reminder that the collective actions of the 55th Legislature will shape Liberia’s future.
“Let our legacy be one in which the Liberian people can proudly say: ‘They stood for us, spoke for us, and served us well.’”
