PAYNESVILLE, Liberia – Women’s football will take center stage in this year’s Bettomax Cup after Bettomax Liberia officially unveiled a women’s competition as part of the second edition of the country’s fast-growing pre-season football tournament.
The 2026 Bettomax Cup was officially launched on Friday at the headquarters of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in Paynesville, where football administrators, club officials, Bettomax executives and other stakeholders gathered to unveil plans for the tournament.
The introduction of a women’s division marks a major expansion of the competition and reflects growing efforts to promote women’s football alongside the men’s game in Liberia.
LFA Welcomes Expanded Investment
Speaking during the launch ceremony, LFA First Vice President Sekou Konneh commended Bettomax Liberia for its continued investment in the development of Liberian football.
He described the inclusion of the women’s competition as a significant milestone for the tournament and a positive step toward creating more opportunities for female footballers.
Konneh also expressed optimism that Bettomax’s growing involvement in Liberian football would eventually extend beyond the Bettomax Cup to include sponsorship of the Liberia Football Association’s national leagues.
He said increased private sector investment remains essential to strengthening football development and improving the country’s domestic competitions.
Bettomax Reaffirms Commitment
For his part, Bettomax Liberia Country Director Darren Glove thanked the Liberia Football Association for its continued partnership and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of football across the country.
Glove said Bettomax views sports development as an important part of its corporate social responsibility and revealed that the company intends to expand its support to additional LFA competitions in the years ahead.
He wished all participating clubs success and encouraged them to use the tournament as an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming football season while showcasing their talent to supporters.

Tournament Format
The men’s competition will feature eight clubs, divided into two groups, with teams battling for a place in the knockout stages before the championship final.
The newly introduced women’s competition will feature four of Liberia’s leading female football clubs:
- Determine Girls;
- World Girls;
- Bushrod Queens; and
- Senior Female Professionals.
The four teams will compete for the first-ever Bettomax Women’s Cup, adding a new dimension to the tournament and further elevating the profile of women’s football in Liberia.
Kickoff Set for August 7
The 2026 Bettomax Cup is scheduled to run from August 7 to August 23, providing football fans with nearly three weeks of competitive action during the domestic off-season.
Beyond serving as a pre-season tournament, the competition is expected to help clubs fine-tune their squads ahead of the new campaign while giving emerging players an opportunity to impress coaches and supporters.
With the addition of the women’s category and Bettomax signaling plans for broader investment in Liberian football, organizers hope this year’s tournament will further strengthen the development of the sport and contribute to greater visibility for both men’s and women’s football across the country.
