MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai on Wednesday celebrated 54 years of marriage, turning the occasion into an evening of gratitude, reflection and fellowship as family members, longtime friends, government officials and invited guests gathered at the President’s Rehab residence in Monrovia.
The anniversary celebration, held on July 29, highlighted more than five decades of companionship between the First Couple, whose marriage has spanned Boakai’s journey from public servant to Vice President and now President of Liberia.
Rather than focusing solely on the longevity of their union, President Boakai used the occasion to reflect on life’s lessons, the importance of integrity, enduring friendships and the responsibilities that accompany public office.

Addressing guests, President Boakai expressed appreciation to everyone who joined the celebration, describing the anniversary as an opportunity to thank God for His blessings throughout their lives.
“When I think about 54 years, the years just roll on,” the President said.
“We want to thank God for the opportunity to come together with old friends and new ones and to share this special moment.”
His remarks underscored the role faith has played throughout his personal and public life—a theme he has consistently emphasized during his presidency. Boakai has repeatedly called for national unity, humility and service, values that many guests said were reflected throughout the evening.

“I had never been to a nightclub in my life,” Boakai said with a smile.
“The next day it was all on Facebook. Nobody knew why I went there, but that’s also part of life.”
