-MYS Hails Achievement as Milestone for Women’s Basketball and Sports Development in Liberia

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) has officially welcomed renowned basketball coach Wellay T. Baar back to Liberia following her successful completion of a prestigious international coaching program at the Hungarian University of Sports Science.

Coach Baar recently paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry, where she presented her certification to Youth and Sports Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, marking the successful completion of a training opportunity aimed at strengthening coaching capacity and advancing sports development.

The achievement has been hailed as another significant step in Liberia’s efforts to invest in professional sports education, capacity building, and international exposure for local coaches and sports administrators.

Speaking during the meeting, Minister Kruah congratulated Coach Baar for her accomplishment and praised her for representing Liberia with distinction on the international stage.

The Minister commended her unwavering dedication to the development of basketball in Liberia, particularly her efforts to empower young athletes and promote greater participation of girls and women in sports.

“Coach Baar’s achievement is a source of pride for Liberia and reflects the importance of investing in knowledge, training, and professional development within our sports sector,” Minister Kruah noted.

A respected figure in Liberian basketball, Coach Baar is widely known as the founder and head of the Spartacus Basketball Team, an institution that has played a vital role in developing young basketball talent and promoting youth empowerment through sports.
