–Government Invites Liberians Worldwide to Washington Gathering Aimed at Converting Diaspora Engagement Into Investment, Innovation, and Measurable Development Outcomes
MONROVIA – Riding on the momentum of what organizers describe as a landmark inaugural gathering, the Government of Liberia has officially announced that the 2026 Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference (LDAC) will be held from September 24–26, 2026, in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area, with an ambitious agenda centered on transforming dialogue into concrete development outcomes.
Under the theme “From Dialogue to Delivery: Diaspora Capital, Innovation, and the Future of Liberia,” this year’s conference seeks to deepen the partnership between Liberia and its global diaspora by mobilizing investment, strengthening innovation, fostering entrepreneurship, and accelerating national development.
The conference is being organized by the Office of Diaspora Affairs under the Office of the President and is expected to attract Liberians and friends of Liberia from across North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and other parts of the world.
A promotional campaign launched over the weekend urged Liberians abroad to “Save the Date,” describing the 2026 conference as the next phase of a national movement to transform the Liberian diaspora from an important source of remittances into a strategic partner in the country’s long-term economic transformation.
“Last year, we proved what’s possible. This year, we deliver,” organizers declared.

Building on a Historic First Conference
The announcement follows what organizers say was an overwhelmingly successful inaugural conference held in September 2025, which marked the first large-scale government-led engagement with Liberia’s global diaspora under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration.
According to conference organizers, the 2025 event attracted more than 700 in-person delegates, 1,358 virtual participants, and representatives from 43 countries, while generating more than 350,000 cumulative online views and streams across digital platforms.
Participants included government officials, investors, entrepreneurs, development partners, healthcare professionals, academics, business leaders, youth organizations and Liberians from around the world.
The conference was conceived as part of President Boakai’s broader vision of strengthening ties with Liberians abroad and encouraging them to become active partners in national development.
From Conversation to Concrete Results
Organizers say the inaugural conference produced several significant outcomes that now form the foundation for the 2026 gathering.
Among the most notable achievements was the establishment of a Senate Diaspora Council, designed to ensure that diaspora perspectives are reflected in legislative discussions.

The conference also advanced discussions surrounding diaspora-friendly legislation and helped shape proposals aimed at improving diaspora engagement with national policymaking.
On the economic front, organizers reported progress toward establishing a Diaspora Investment Fund, a Diaspora Engagement Commission, and the development of diaspora savings bonds intended to provide Liberians abroad with structured opportunities to invest directly in national development projects.
Officials say more than 150,000 Liberians in the diaspora participated in related engagement activities through volunteers, community organizations and advocacy networks.
Conference surveys further indicated that 90 percent of participants left inspired to contribute more actively to Liberia’s development, while 84 percent supported making the conference an annual event and more than 40 volunteers joined the conference’s growing international volunteer corps.
President Boakai’s Diaspora Vision
The annual conference fulfills one of President Boakai’s key commitments since assuming office—to establish a permanent platform for engaging Liberians living abroad.
During the inaugural conference, President Boakai challenged Liberians in the diaspora to move beyond remittances by investing in businesses capable of creating jobs and stimulating sustainable economic growth.

Recognizing that Liberians abroad contribute hundreds of millions of dollars annually through family remittances, the President argued that channeling even a portion of that financial capacity into productive investment could significantly accelerate Liberia’s economic transformation.
To support that vision, the Government pledged to work toward establishing a Diaspora Investment Fund, create a Diaspora Engagement Commission, and explore diaspora savings bonds that would allow Liberians abroad to invest directly in national development projects.
The conference also aligns with the Boakai administration’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, particularly its emphasis on economic transformation, private-sector growth, governance reform and human capital development.
Spotlight on Capital, Innovation and Partnerships
Unlike last year’s conference, which focused heavily on reconciliation, national healing and reconnecting Liberians abroad with their homeland, the 2026 edition places stronger emphasis on implementation.
Organizers say discussions will focus on mobilizing diaspora capital, advancing innovation and technology, strengthening entrepreneurship, expanding investment opportunities, improving healthcare and education partnerships, supporting agriculture, and fostering collaboration between government, the private sector and Liberians abroad.

The conference’s new theme reflects what organizers describe as a deliberate shift from policy discussions to measurable action.
“From Dialogue to Delivery” signals the Government’s intention to move beyond conversations and produce tangible outcomes capable of supporting Liberia’s long-term development agenda.
Growing International Recognition
The announcement comes as Liberia’s diaspora engagement strategy continues to receive growing international attention.
Sometime this month, Liberia’s approach to diaspora engagement was commended during the COMESA–International Organization for Migration (IOM) Diaspora Investment Workshop in Mombasa, Kenya, where officials from more than 20 African countries highlighted Liberia’s government-led model as an emerging example of effective diaspora engagement.
Participants praised initiatives such as the Presidential Diaspora Conference, the Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference and the Diaspora Annual Return program for creating structured pathways that encourage investment, skills transfer and sustained collaboration between Liberians abroad and their homeland.
Officials also welcomed Liberia’s proposal for the establishment of an African Diaspora Engagement Taskforce aimed at strengthening continental cooperation on diaspora development.

Registration to Open Soon
The Office of Diaspora Affairs has encouraged Liberians worldwide to reserve the conference dates while registration and program details are finalized.
Organizers say additional information on registration, sponsorship opportunities, keynote speakers, panel discussions and investment forums will be released in the coming weeks.
For many Liberians living abroad, the annual conference has evolved beyond a networking event into what organizers increasingly describe as a national platform for shaping Liberia’s future through partnership, innovation and shared responsibility.
As preparations intensify for September’s gathering in the Washington metropolitan area, expectations are high that this year’s conference will build on last year’s momentum and convert ideas into investments, partnerships into projects, and dialogue into lasting national development.
