The Liberia Amputees Football and Sports Association (LAFASA) has elected a new leadership team to steer the affairs of the organization for the next four years following elections held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
Association members gathered to elect officials who will lead efforts to promote amputee football and advance sports opportunities for persons living with disabilities across Liberia.
At the conclusion of the electoral process, Jonathan Wehyee emerged as the association’s new President.
Joining him on the newly elected executive team are Cooper Gbatah, Vice President for Administration; Samuel T. Tengbah, Vice President for Operations; Benedict Kollie, General Secretary; Emmanuel Brown, Assistant Secretary; and Morris Quoiquoi, Treasurer.
Election organizers disclosed that all candidates successfully passed the vetting process and were elected through a white-ballot system. The elections were conducted under the supervision of the Elections Committee, chaired by Marie Wonder Gayflor.
The newly elected leadership now assumes responsibility for guiding the growth and development of amputee football and other sporting activities for persons living with disabilities throughout the country.
The administration is expected to build on the gains made by its predecessors while pursuing initiatives aimed at expanding participation, improving athlete development, and promoting greater inclusion through sports.
Members of the association expressed optimism that the new leadership will strengthen the organization, attract additional support for amputee sports, and create more opportunities for athletes to showcase their talents both locally and internationally.
LAFASA has played a vital role in using sports as a platform for empowerment, rehabilitation, and social inclusion, helping to break barriers and demonstrate the abilities of persons living with disabilities.
With a new executive team now in place, stakeholders are hopeful that the association will continue to grow and achieve greater success during its four-year mandate.
