WASHINGTON, D.C. — Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, Al-Hassan Conteh, has hosted high-level diplomatic discussions with Ana Irene Delgado, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Panama to the Organization of American States (OAS), aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between Liberia and Panama.
The meeting, held at the Embassy of Liberia in Washington, focused on expanding collaboration in key strategic sectors, including maritime affairs, trade, international security, and multilateral diplomacy.
Ambassador Delgado, a distinguished Panamanian diplomat and legal expert, previously served as Panama’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Italy, as well as Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). She is widely recognized for her work in international maritime governance and global diplomacy.
According to a statement issued following the meeting, the discussions explored opportunities to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties between Liberia and Panama, particularly in areas where both countries share strategic interests.
Among the issues highlighted were efforts to enhance trade relations, improve maritime safety and security, deepen cooperation in open registry systems, and promote partnerships capable of advancing economic growth and international competitiveness for both nations.

“We reflected upon the shared maritime strengths that unite our countries, and these discussions are vital in advancing our mutual interests and in building a robust partnership between Liberia and Panama,” Ambassador Conteh stated.
Liberia and Panama are both globally recognized maritime nations with some of the world’s largest ship registries, making maritime cooperation a critical pillar of their bilateral relationship. Analysts say stronger collaboration between the two countries could create new opportunities in shipping regulation, maritime safety, and international commerce.
Beyond bilateral matters, the diplomats also exchanged views on broader global challenges and foreign policy priorities.
As current non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Liberia and Panama acknowledged the importance of closer collaboration on international peace, security, and multilateral engagement.
The meeting underscored Liberia’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen strategic international partnerships and expand cooperation with countries that share common economic and geopolitical interests.
Officials say the engagement reflects the Liberian government’s broader commitment to proactive diplomacy, international cooperation, and the pursuit of partnerships that support sustainable development and regional stability.
