MONROVIA, Liberia – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a special global webinar aimed at helping Liberians living abroad better understand the country’s passport and visa application processes, as well as other critical consular services available through Liberia’s diplomatic missions.
The virtual engagement, organized by the Ministry’s Diaspora Office, is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026, and is expected to bring together Liberians from across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and other parts of the world to discuss issues affecting citizens residing outside Liberia.
According to the Ministry, the webinar will begin at 1:30 p.m. Liberia time (UTC), corresponding to 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (New York), 2:30 p.m. GMT (London), 9:30 p.m. China Standard Time (Beijing) and 11:30 p.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time (Australia).
Focus on Passport and Visa Services
The Ministry said the online forum will provide comprehensive guidance on passport and visa processes and procedures, with officials expected to respond to frequently asked questions from Liberians living in the diaspora.
Participants will receive information on:
- How to apply for a new Liberian passport;
- Passport renewal procedures;
- Visa application requirements;
- Issues affecting Liberians who hold dual citizenship;
- Guidance for undocumented Liberian citizens residing abroad; and
- Other consular and travel-related matters.
The Ministry described the webinar as an opportunity for Liberians overseas to obtain accurate information directly from government officials responsible for consular and diaspora affairs.
“Everything you need to know about the passport and visa process while living in the diaspora” will be discussed during the session, according to the Ministry’s announcement.
Strengthening Engagement with the Diaspora
The initiative forms part of the Boakai administration’s broader effort to strengthen engagement with Liberians living abroad, a community that continues to play a significant role in the country’s economic and social development through remittances, investments, professional expertise and humanitarian support.
Successive governments have increasingly recognized the diaspora as an important national development partner, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expanded outreach efforts to improve access to consular services and maintain stronger communication with Liberian communities overseas.
Officials say many Liberians residing abroad frequently seek clarification on passport renewals, travel documentation, dual citizenship requirements and immigration-related matters, making the upcoming webinar an important platform for direct interaction with government representatives.
Interactive Session Planned
The Ministry is encouraging Liberians worldwide to participate actively in the virtual meeting, describing it as an opportunity to engage officials, ask questions and receive practical guidance on navigating Liberia’s passport and visa systems while residing outside the country.
The Ministry’s promotional materials urge participants to “Engage, Learn, Be Empowered,” emphasizing that the session is intended to provide reliable information and improve access to essential consular services.
The webinar will be conducted via Zoom, with participants able to join through the official meeting link or by scanning the QR code provided in the Ministry’s announcement.
Officials believe the initiative will help improve public understanding of Liberia’s passport and visa procedures while strengthening the relationship between the government and Liberians in the diaspora.
