ACCRA, GHANA – Liberia’s U-17 Girls National Team suffered a crushing 6-0 defeat to Ghana on Saturday in the first leg of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, leaving the Young Lone Star with a daunting task ahead in the return fixture.
Playing before an energetic home crowd at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Ghanaian side dominated possession and controlled the pace of the match from start to finish.
Ghana opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Daniella Abass after sustained attacking pressure on the Liberian defense. The hosts carried their momentum into the second half and doubled their advantage in the 53rd minute when Seidatu Wahab calmly converted from the penalty spot.

The floodgates soon opened as Linda Achiaa netted Ghana’s third goal four minutes later before Jessica Appiah added a fourth in the 60th minute.
Priscilla Mensah extended the lead further in the 73rd minute, while Mavis Yeboah sealed the emphatic victory deep into stoppage time to hand Ghana a commanding first-leg advantage.

Despite the heavy loss, Liberia’s young squad is expected to regroup and fight for an improved performance in the second leg as they seek to restore pride and gain valuable international experience.
The encounter also exposed the gap in preparation and competitive experience between the two sides, but football analysts say the qualifiers remain an important developmental platform for Liberia’s emerging female talents.
With the convincing result, Ghana now moves significantly closer to securing qualification to the next round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
